Be Scam Aware

Fight back

Report a scam — the official way

There are two official channels in Australia. Pick the one that fits, and report — every report feeds the National Anti-Scam Centre's intelligence and can stop the same scam for someone else.

If it's urgent, do this first

Call your bank now

If money just moved, the bank can flag accounts and attempt recalls. Every hour matters.

Identity documents exposed?

Call IDCARE on 1800 595 160 — free national identity and cyber support.

Card used?

Contact the card issuer and dispute the transactions. Most cards offer fraud protection.

Remote access installed?

Disconnect from the internet, uninstall the software, and run a security scan before doing anything else.

Before you report — gather this

You don't need a perfect dossier to start. Reports are accepted with what you have. But the more of these you can attach, the more useful your report is.

  • Dates and times of every contact
  • Amounts lost and the accounts or cards involved
  • Screenshots or saved copies of messages, emails, and ads
  • Links, phone numbers, and names used by the scammer
  • Transaction references from your bank
  • A timeline — even rough dates help

Be Scam Aware is an independent guide and is not affiliated with any government agency. Reporting happens on the official sites above. If someone contacts you offering to "recover your money" for a fee — that is the follow-up scam. Hang up.
